Three police arrested on suspicion of taking bribes

The State Police's Internal Affairs Department has detained three police officers on suspicion of bribe taking.

Spokeswoman from the Internal Affairs Department Diana Petersa informed the LETA news agency that during a special investigation, an inspector at a police precinct in the Latgale Regional Police Department was detained for demanding a €1,500 bribe for influencing the result of a petition submitted to the department.

The mentioned officer has since been detained and taken into custody as a security measure.

Meanwhile, in a different case, two more police officers were detained after the State Police's Internal Affairs Department received a video from RigaTV 24 where a possible instance of bribery was filmed by the television channel's crew. After reviewing the video, the Internal Affairs Department launched a criminal process and detained two police officers.

According to the investigation into the incident, the police officers were detained for taking a €60 bribe to avoid fining a driver for a traffic violation.
