Take note – story published 6 years ago

The Latvian Centenary Express will travel through Latvia on May 26-28 with song and dance concerts ahead of Latvia's founding centenary and the Song and Dance Festival in 2018, the Culture Ministry told the press.

Twelve free concerts will take place across Latvia with the participation of about 180 musicians and dancers on board the musical express.

The musical express is to perform by Latvia's railway stations and market squares with the participation of the choirs BALSIS, Monēta, Rīga, as well as dance collectives Ačkups, Auda, Dardedze alongside local artists.

It will depart from Latgale's Indra station making its way across Latvia and coming back to Valka on May 28 with a massive performance highlighting the town's pivotal role in shaping Latvia's independence.

The performance is to be the first of a number of events celebrating the centenary of the Latvian Provisional National Council - a political body that adopted a declaration on Latvia's autonomy and helped the campaign for independence. The events will culminate on December 2 with a conference and unveiling a monument
