Watch: Potato field turns into quality ice rink

Take note – story published 6 years ago

Flooded fields have frozen over and turned into great ice rinks locals can enjoy. This video from the January 13-14 weekend shows ice skaters braving the frozen potato fields of the Ezītis farm near Olaine.

The video's author, journalist Māra Rozenberga, said that fields of ice stretch for several hundred square meters, but that the ice skaters had to avoid one spot where the ice was cracking suspiciously.

However, should someone break through the ice there, the unlucky person would be quite safe, as flooded potato fields are usually much more shallow than ponds or lakes.

However, as previously reported by LSM, Latvian farmers are not averse to swimming through their fields too, when conditions allow.
