The youth radio pieci.lv charity initiative High Five (Dod pieci!) aiming to provide assistants to families raising disabled children has raised €135,546 for charity within 147 hours, from December 16 to December 22, reported LSM's Latvian-language service Wednesday.

The initiative saw three disk jockeys playing songs from the Rīga Central Station. During the initiative everyone could order a song to be played on pieci.lv paying at least five euros. However several benefactors donated much more than that - some up to €1000.

Latvian Radio announced that 54 families raising disabled children will be able to hire assistants next year from the proceeds of the initiative. The organizers stressed that in the second year of the initiative it was important to reach as many people as possible so a glass studio was placed by the Central Station, reaching people who would be otherwise too preoccupied to think about people around us who need help.

Previously, the organizers said that twice as many songs were ordered over last year, and some songs will be played after the conclusion of the initiative.
