The money from this year's Dod Pieci is all going to the cancer charity "Dzivibas koks" (Tree of life) and the proceeds will be used to help 513 people in 21 dedicated camps.
"We are very grateful for such unexpectedly great support," said Dzivibas koks board member Maija Kārkliņa.
There are almost 75 thousand cancer patients in Latvia however the state doesn't fund programs addressing the psychological aspects of cancer treatment.
Kārkliņa said that the charity marathon has already helped many people understand that they're note alone in their fight against cancer.
The initiative took the form of a DJ-a-thon in which radio people locked themselves in a perspex box outside the central railway station from which they broadcast from December 15-21. Three DJs spent 149 in the box in total.
People could donate by giving at least five euros to charity in return for a song the DJs would play on the radio.
Some people donated well over €5, with the Marta Migla song Koris receiving a record €4,111 with several others being given over €1,000.
