Record-cold Friday morning in Latvia

On Friday morning, the air temperature dropped to -2.4 C in Stende, Talsi municipality, which is a new cold record for June 2, according to information from the Latvian Environment, Geology, and Meteorology Centre.

Previously, the lowest temperature on that date was recorded in 1977 at the Limbaži Municipality Skulte, where it was -2.3 C.

Friday morning was cold in many places in western Vidzeme and Kurzeme. The warmest were eastern Vidzeme and Zemgale, as well as Latgale, where the night was overcast and rainy.

The lowest monthly temperature of June ever, at -3.1, was recorded in Stende on June 9, 1941.
