Another record chill Saturday morning

For a second day in a row, record low temperatures for the time of year were recorded in Latvia overnight.

On the mornign of Saturday, June 3, morning temperatures dropped to -2 degrees Celsius in Stende, Talsi district, according to data from the Latvian Center for Environment, Geology and Meteorology (LVĢMC).

This is a repeat of the June 3rd national cold record. Previously, it had only been so cold on the morning of June 3, 1941, when it was exactly -2 degrees in Rucava.

A record of local significance was set at the Saldus meteorological station, with the temperature dropping to 0.4 degrees, which is 0.1 degrees colder than earlier in the early morning of June 3, 1975, when Saldus was 0.5 degrees cooler.

In most of Kurzeme, the minimum air temperature last night was between -1 and +2 degrees Celsius, in the rest of the country the range was a milder +2 to +6 C, and in places on the coast it did not get colder than +8 C.

On Saturday morning, clouds partly cover the sky of Latvia, it is raining in some places in the central and eastern regions of the country. Slow to moderate westerly and northwesterly winds predominate and mainly cloudy weather is expected for the rest of the day with the possibility of rain showers and temperatures remaining unseasonably cool in the range of +7 to +10 C.

The highest temperature in Europe on June 2 was 31 degrees in France, Greece and Ukraine, as well as 34 degrees in Cyprus.
