Warmer weather on the horizon after final frosts

After a decidedly chilly few days, in the second half of next week, the air temperature in Latvia will again rise to the magic +20 degrees Celsius mark, according to the latest forecasts.

The coldest weather this week will be on May 5 and 6, when the air temperature could drop as low as -6 C at night, and will be below freezing point in most of the country. Even on Sunday night and Monday morning in Vidzeme and Latgale, frost is expected, but in the afternoon of May 7 the air will rapidly warm up to between +9 C and +14 C.

In the second half of the week, frosts are no longer expected and the air temperature will rise to from +16 c to +21 C. The prevailing wind will be slow to moderate from the south.

The weather will be mostly dry. A higher probability of rain is predicted on Wednesday, May 10.

According to current forecasts, the return of strong frosts in the second half of May is not expected.

It has already been reported that cold records are expected in Latvia in the coming nights and frosts could cause damage to plants and crops.
