Hot weather to return to Latvia over weekend

Hot weather is forecast to return to most of Latvia over the weekend.

The weather will remain moderately warm over the next two days, although temperatures will still be well above normal. On Thursday and Friday, it will rain occasionally, with some heavy showers and thunderstorms expected in Vidzeme and Latgale. There will be a slow breeze of variable direction and in Kurzeme, a slow to moderate northerly breeze.

Minimum temperatures will be in the range of +11 C to +16 C at night, +8 C to +9 C in Kurzeme, and +18 C to +23 C in the afternoons.

On Saturday, rain is expected in Kurzeme, with mostly sunny weather elsewhere, and temperatures will reach +23 C to +28 C, cooler in Kurzeme at +18 C to +22 C.

On Sunday, it will be cooler only in parts of the Kurzeme coast - around 20 degrees, elsewhere +23 C to +28 C. No precipitation is expected, the weather will be sunny.

Hot weather will continue during the first two days of next week.

The average temperature in Latvia this September has so far been around 18 degrees, about 4 degrees warmer than the climatic norm and in line with the normal temperature for July and August.

Forecasts show that this month's average temperature is likely to remain above 15 degrees, as opposed to 12.3 degrees, which is the climatic norm for the month. Last year, Latvia experienced the warmest September in the history of meteorological observations, with an average air temperature of 15.8 degrees.
