The lowest air temperature was 5.6 degrees at the Madona observation station on September 9, while the highest - up to 30 degrees - was recorded in Bauska on September 4.
A total of 36 heat records were set, including the national record for September 4 and 8.
The average rainfall in Latvia in the first decade of September was just four millimeters, or 18% of normal. The highest precipitation of 16.5 millimeters was recorded in Ventspils, while no significant precipitation fell at the observation stations in Aluksne, Daugavpils, Gulbene, Jēkabpils, Madona, Ogresgals, Rēzekne, Rožupe, Skrīveri and Zosēni.
On Sunday, September 22, the equinox will occur and the Northern Hemisphere will enter astronomical autumn. It could also be the start of the meteorological autumn, as the average daily air temperature in Latvia is forecast to drop below 15 degrees.
