Yellow alert for wet snow in Latvia Wednesday night

Precipitation will reach Latvia overnight to Wednesday, November 20, bringing wet snow across the country.

The State Fire and Rescue Service has issued a yellow alert for drivers and pedestrians.

On Wednesday, November 20, a 5-8 cm thick layer of snow will form in many areas in the morning, with gusty winds causing some blizzard. Driving conditions will become more difficult, with visibility at times reduced to 200-500 m and slippery sections of roads. During the day, snow will turn to sleet and rain, and the snow cover will melt.

The alertis valid from 21:00 on Tuesday November 19 until 12:00 on Wednesday, November 20.

Snow may hamper traffic on roads and pedestrians. Snowfall and wet snow may cause tree branches to break and power lines to be damaged in some areas. Outdoor activities may be disrupted in some areas. Be careful when walking, cycling or driving.
