End of week will start to look like winter in Latvia

Frost awaits Latvia over the weekend, but the weather will turn warmer again next week, according to forecasts.

On Thursday, temperatures will be -1 to +4 C both night and day, with some rain at night turning to wet snow, and mostly wet snow and sleet during the day.

On Friday night, it will be freezing overnight, with some snow and sleet across the country, except the coast, and temperatures will be -5 C to 0 on weekend nights, -7 C on Saturday morning in Kurzeme and Vidzeme, and -1 C to +4 C in the afternoons.

Over the weekend, the sun will shine at times, but light snow and wet snow are also expected in places. Most of Latvia will be covered by a light layer of snow.

Drivers should expect icy roads at the weekend.

At the start of the new week, gusty south-westerly winds will bring much warmer air, with temperatures above freezing across Latvia on Monday and even around 10 degrees in Kurzeme on Tuesday. All the snow will melt.
