Record-breaking temperatures expected Friday

Friday, September 22, 2023 will be the warmest September 22 since meteorological observations began in Latvia, according to latest forecasts.

The day is expected to be sunny but windy. South-eastern wind gusts will reach 10-15 meters per second.

Late in the evening, rain clouds will reach the western coast of Kurzeme, and a thunderstorm is also possible. Before then though, a glorious day is anticipated with maximum air temperatures from 22 Celsius to as high as 27 Celsius.

The current national heat record for September 22 was set in 1989 in Priekuli, where the temperature was 24.3 degrees.

It will be a sunny day in Riga with a gusty southeasterly wind of up to 12-14 meters per second and a maximum air temperature around 25 C. The maximum temperature record in Riga for September 22 is 22.4 degrees Celsius, which was achieved in 2020.

All in all, an excellent excuse for apples with ice cream.
