Next week in Latvia will get warmer

Most of Latvia will be frosty over the weekend, with snow still falling in places, but next week it will get much warmer and all the snow will melt, according to forecasts.

Heavy snow is expected overnight Saturday and into Saturday morning in southern Kurzeme, mainly in southern Kurzeme and Saldus, and in western Vidzeme, mainly in Limbaži.

Snow layer may increase locally by about 10 centimeters, while elsewhere it will snow only lightly and occasionally.

On Sunday, precipitation is not expected, the weather will be sunny in many places, with overcast skies in the afternoon from the west.

Air temperatures will be mostly -7 C to -2 C over the weekend nights, around 0 at the coast.  -1 C to +3 C in the afternoon, on Sunday afternoon in western Kurzeme to +4 C to +6 C.

The prevailing winds over the weekend will be slow to moderate southerly, southwesterly, gusty at times in Kurzeme on Saturday. On Sunday afternoon the wind will turn from the south-east and start to pick up.

Overnight on Monday, precipitation is expected across the country - snow at first, quickly turning to rain.

During the transition phase, freezing rain is possible, causing dangerous icy conditions.

During the night on Monday, it will still be freezing in many places, but by mid-morning all the snow will have melted, with temperatures on Monday afternoon ranging from +3 C to +4 C in the east of the country to +8 C to +9 C on the coast in Kurzeme.

Next week, temperatures will be mostly above freezing.
