Warm end of November expected in Latvia

Warm weather is expected in Latvia at the end of November and will continue into early December, according to forecasts.

Temperatures will be mostly in the 2-7 degree range in the first half of this week until Wednesday. On Monday and Tuesday, it will reach 9 to 10 degrees in parts of Kurzeme. On Monday, the sun will shine in some places, but it will be mostly cloudy with occasional showers.

It will get a little cooler in the second half of the week, but daytime temperatures will still be above freezing, with a slight frost expected on weekend nights in many places, but no precipitation, and there is a chance of some sunshine over the weekend.

Monday will be windy, but the prevailing winds this week will be slow, sometimes moderate south-westerly, southerly.

Further forecasts indicate that a solid freeze is not expected in the first days of December.

This year's meteorological winter has not yet begun in Latvia. During the last cold spell, there were only three days with average daily temperatures below zero in eastern Latvia. Meteorological winter starts when the average temperature is zero degrees or below for five consecutive days.

Last year, meteorological winter started in mid-November, but by the end of the month much of Latvia was covered by snow.

This November will be about two degrees warmer than the climatic norm.
