Warm start to September expected

There is good news for sun worshippers – summer is far from over in Latvia and we can look forward to at least another week or so of warm temperatures.

Summer weather will stay in place in Latvia during the first week of September, and the temperature could reach 30 degrees Celsius in some places, according to forecasts.

Thursday, August 29 will pass without rain, the sky will be mostly clear, the temperature may drop to as low as 8 C Wednesday night, but will rise again to from 23 C to 28 C during Thursday.

On Thursday night, the air will cool down only sightly, but Friday will be hot at from 26 C to 31 C, and it is expected that in many places in Kurzeme region this will become the hottest August 30 on record. In the afternoon, thunderstorms and short rain showers are possible in places in Kurzeme.

During the weekend, a cooler air mass will reach Latvia from the west, so on Saturday and Sunday in Kurzeme, Zemgale and the west of Vidzeme, the temperature will reach from 19 C to 24 C, the sky will often be cloudy and rain is also expected. The east of the country will be hottest and may see temperatures of up to 29 degrees.

A steamy air mass will return to us next week with slow easterly and south-easterly winds, the temperature in the afternoons will mostly be in the range of 23 C to 28 C degrees, but some days could touch 30 degrees. The weather will be mostly sunny and dry.

On the first day of school, September 2, in the morning in Kurzeme, rain is possible, elsewhere it will be sunny and dry, with temperatures of 24 C to 29 C degrees. Kurzeme, where there ill be more clouds, will also be a few degrees cooler.
