Another wet week ahead in Latvia

The last days of May and the beginning of June will be soggy ones, with several large rain fronts crossing the country from the south, according to the forecast of the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center (LVĢMC).

Already, in many places in the eastern part of the country the monthly precipitation norm has been exceeded, and with a couple of days to go, those levels will be further extended.

The days will be cooler at the beginning of the week, and it will gradually get warmer again towards the end of the week, which will be characterised by a slow to moderate south wind.

Monday morning and the first half of the day in Latvia will be generally sunny, but later the sky will cloud over, according to forecasts. Maximum air temperature will be + 13 to + 18 degrees Celsius.

On Tuesday , the sky will be completely covered by a thick blanket of clouds. Rain is expected in many places, mostly at night, it will be prolonged and heavy, and thunderstorms are likely to occur. During the day the air will only warm up to + 10 C to + 15 C.

On Wednesday , as the impact of the cyclone diminishes, the amount of cloud will change again, but it will also rain in some places, though the precipitation will not be long-lasting. A slow to moderate south wind will dominate. On the first day of June, in a token nod towards the summer, it will gradually warm up again and the maximum air temperature is expected to be in the range + 15 C to + 19 C.

The amount of cloud will increase gradually on Friday, with widespread rainfall, with the largest downpours expected in the eastern part of the country. South to moderate south winds will remain. During the day it will rise to frpom + 12 C to + 18 C, though in a few central and eastern regions it could touch + 20 C.

The current forecast shows that – surprise, surprise – rain is expected in many places next weekend, but it will no longer be so intense, so it will take you slightly longer to get soaked. Maximum daytime temperatures will continue to hover around the + 17 C to + 19 C mark, though along the coast it is likely to be three or four degrees cooler.
