The heatwave, ongoing in Latvia since late July, is to recede soon with significantly cooler weather to set in, forecasts say.

Wednesday and Thursday will still be scorching hot with temps of about +30C and sunny weather. On Thursday there's chance of thunderstorms, mostly in Kurzeme.

On Friday it'll become more cloudy with westerly winds blowing in and temps dropping to +23..+28C.

The weekend will be somewhat warm with +14..+19C at night and +21..+27C during the day. While it'll be mostly sunny, both Saturday and Sunday can see intermittent rain and even hail.

Current forecasts say the next week is to start off rainy with average daytime temperatures of about +17..+22C.
