Black ice warning on roads of Latvia Monday morning

Take note – story published 1 year ago

On Monday morning there is a small thaw in Kurzeme and Vidzeme, but the temperature will drop over the course of the day, according to forecasts.

There will often be sunshine between the clouds, and in the morning there will be a little rain and snow in Vidzeme, so the roads will be icy.

Peak air temperature in Kurzeme and west Vidzeme 0 to +3 C, the rest of the country -6 C to -1 C, but in the afternoons the whole of Latvia will get cooler.

Precipitation is not expected in Riga, and the sun will shine at times.

Meanwhile, “Latvian State Roads” announced that Monday morning at 6:30 snow and ice in many parts of Latvia makes it difficult to drive along the country's main and regional roads. In order to improve driving conditions, 79 winter service machinery units are involved in road maintenance work.

Difficult driving conditions on the country's main roads are on A1, A2, A3, A4, A6, A9, and A10. Travel on regional roads is difficult throughout Latvia, with the exception of Bauska, Balvi, Ogre, Krāslava, Kuldīga, and Ventspils.

The so-called black ice can be formed on the roads, which is invisible, so drivers are asked to be particularly careful.
