Cold week ahead in Latvia, say forecasters

Take note – story published 4 years ago

The weather in Latvia will remain cool throughout the week with potential cold records expected in the second half of the week, according to forecasters.

The air temperature during the day will range between +14 to +19 degrees throughout the whole week, reaching +21 degrees C in only a few areas on Thursday and Sunday. The temperatures may drop to +10 degrees C during strong rainfalls and hailstorms.

At night, temperatures will drop to from +7 to +13 degrees C at most, with nights colder still at +3 to +5 degrees C on Friday and Saturday, primarily in Vidzeme and Latgale.

The absolute minimum air temperature record for the middle of July is +3 to +5 degrees C, so it is possible that the record will be broken at least in certain localized areas - a striking contrast to June's all time highs.

The strongest rain and thunderstorms are expected in the first half of the week – until Wednesday, whereas the second half will be drier with short-term rainfall expected only in specific places.

The latest long-term forecasts show that the average July temperature in Latvia will be below the climatic norm, which means that there is little chance that the second half of the month will see a significant increase in temperature.
