Around 14:00 in Jūrmala, Kauguri, a tree branch fell on an elderly woman who died, NMPD reported.
The State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) received around 200 calls on Monday by 16:30, twice as many as during Friday's storm.
“The calls came in very intensively between 12:30 and 15:00. Every minute, even more. So that's a lot. The firefighters also noticed and prevented some damage while moving from one call point to another,” VUGD spokeswoman Agrita Vītola said.
Mostly, the calls regarded the removal of trees and branches from roads and pavements, and in at least five cases, a tree had fallen on a car.
Most calls were received in Jūrmala and Riga.
Around 20,000 people's electricity supply has been interrupted throughout the country. As the strong wind continues, new damage has been observed throughout Latvia, including the roof of Riga Doma Church.
