Freezing weather to arrive this week

This week a freeze and wintry weather with snowstorms will arrive to Latvia, say forecasts.

Monday will be warm at -1..+3C with snow expected across the country.

Tuesday will also see snow with temperatures of 0..-5C and up to +2C at the coastal regions.

On Wednesday a cyclone weather system will reach Latvia bringing winds with gusts of 17 to 22 m/s with snow and snowstorms across the country. Temperatures will start dropping rapidly on the night to Thursday with arctic air masses flowing into the country.

From Thursday night to Saturday nocturnal temperatures will be at -10..-15C and -16..-21C in parts of Vidzeme and Latgale. Places in these regions will see temperatures drop up to -25C at night. The coastal areas are expected to be slightly warmer at -5..-9C.

Daytime temperatures are forecast to be around -6..-11C and up to -15C in eastern parts of the country and -2..-5 in the coastal regions.

The weather will gradually become slightly warmer starting Saturday.
