Heatwave to occur over weekend in Latvia

The first heatwave of this summer is to occur over the weekend, forecasts say.

Air temperatures across Latvia are to reach +22..+27C on the afternoon except in Kurzeme where it'll be somewhat colder at +15..+20C. The weather will be sunny, again, except in Kurzeme where rather strong but short-lasting showers are expected here and there.

It should be warm at night too with temperatures of +9..+24C.

While Monday and Tuesday are to be even hotter with temperatures of +28..+29C expected locally including Rīga. Some thunderstorms are expected as well.

Slow southeasterly winds are expected. According to Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center, the bare minimum for a heatwave to be declared in Latvia is a period of two days when temperatures reach +27C. In parts of Latvia, temperatures of +27...+29C are to last for four days.
