Heatwave to remain for much of this week

Take note – story published 5 years ago

The heatwave that has held Latvia in its grasp over recent days will continue for several more days, according to forecasters.

The past weekend saw record high temperatures at several weather stations.

Monday will likely be the hottest day of this week, with the temperature in many places exceeding +30 degrees Celsius, but similar temperatures can be expected on subsequent days, too.

The daytime temperature on Tuesday and Wednesday will be around +26 to + 31 C, and at night +16 to + 21 C.

Thursday and Friday are expected to be a couple of degrees cooler with temperatures in the mid- to high 20s rather than touching or exceeding 30 C.

Next weekend should see the current weather system finally replaced with westerly and, northwesterly winds from Scandinavia bringing significantly cooler and wetter weather.

Bearing in mind that another hot week is ahead, members of the public and visitors are reminded to stay hydrated, not to swim under the influence of alcohol and not to use naked flames in the forests.
