Hottest Valentine's day in Latvia's history

On Tuesday, a new February 14 heat record has been hit at several meteorological observation stations in Kurzeme and Zemgale, according to information from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center.

The highest temperature was recorded in Rucava of the Dienvidkurzeme region, with +8.3 C. This is also a national heat record of February 14, outnumbering the previous +7.8 C in Madona in 1995. 

A new heat record has also been set in Saldus, Bauska, Jelgava municipality in Staļģene and Talsi municipality Stende.

In the afternoon, new heat records are also possible elsewhere in Kurzeme and the central part of the country.

The meteorological spring has also started in Rīga today, as this is the fifth consecutive day with an average air temperature above zero. As reported, spring has already started elsewhere in Latvia.
