North Vidzeme records thickest layer of snow this season

On Monday morning, the snow layer in Alūksne has increased from 33 to 41 centimeters (cm), the thickest layer recorded since last winter, according to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center.

The previous record was 39 centimeters on December 5 in Sigulda. Last winter's thickest layer was 52 centimeters on January 31, 2021 in Ogresgals.

Elsewhere in North Vidzeme the snow is also thick, over 20 cm. At other observation stations in Vidzeme and Latgale, the thickness of the snow blanket is mainly 5-20 cm, in Zemgale and in Riga 5-10 cm, but in the majority of Kurzeme less than five centimeters.
