Orange alert in force due to heavy snowfall in Latvia's eastern parts

The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center warns that on Monday, November 29, a heavy snowfall is expected in the east of Latvia, according to LSM's weatherman Toms Bricis.

In Latgale, Monday 8:00 until Tuesday 20:00 the orange alert is in force, while in Vidzeme, eastern Zemgale, Rīga, the yellow alert is in force throughout the same time period. Up to 20 centimeters of snow can accumulate in Latgale whereas in Zemgale, Vidzeme and Rīga the layer could be around 5–8 cm.

During the snow, the visibility will decrease to 200–500 meters, and driving conditions can be very complicated.

Air temperature will reach -3 C to +2 C on Monday. In the late afternoon and in the evening, in Vidzeme it might fall to -5 C.

In Rīga, snowing will start around midday and will gradually increase in the evening.
