Return to sub-zero temperatures expected in late January

Take note – story published 1 year ago

After a generally mild week in Latvia, the weekend and next week will see a return to temperatures below freezing point, according to the latest forecasts. The freeze will not be severe, though it could extend for several weeks.

The air temperature on this weekend's nights and mornings will be in the range of -7 Celsius to 0 degrees, while the maximum temperature in the afternoons will be from  -3 to +2 degrees Celsius.

In some places, mainly in Latgale and Zemgale, a small amount of precipitation can be expected in the form of fine snow, hail or freezing rain, so roads will potentially be very slippery and caution is advised when driving and perambulating on the sidewalk.

During the day, the sun will break through from time to time between the clouds.

At the beginning of next week, there will be no major changes in the weather. At night, when the sky clears, the frost will intensify to around -10 degrees Celsius, but mostly it will be a few degrees below zero, and during the day hovering around freezing point.
