Cooler temperatures, scattered rain showers and strong wind gusts continued from Monday into Tuesday morning from western coastal Kurzeme east across Latvia’s central and inland regions, reports the state Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC).

Air temperatures overnight mostly hovered between +12 and +13 degrees C, reaching +16 at some points on Kurzeme’s Baltic shore. Moderate winds from the south turned occasionally to stronger southwesterly gusts measured up to 15 meters/second around coastal Kurzeme.

However new thunderheads are forecast to reach Kurzeme from the open Baltic Sea Tuesday, bringing strong localized wind gusts expected to reach 22 meters/second. During the day the national territory will see both scattered sunshine and overcast cloud cover, with frequent precipitation in the form of thunderstorms especially near the coasts of Kurzeme and Vidzeme provinces.

Riga and its surroundings will experience wind strengths between 10-15 meters/second.

Daytime air temperatures will be at highs between +18 to +21 degrees, dropping down to +15 during times of rainfall.
