Snowfall to continue Thursday

Take note – story published 1 year ago

On the morning of Thursday, December 8, snow is creating difficult driving conditions throughout the country. 185 road clearing units are currently working on the roads, said the state company Latvijas Valsts ceļi (LVC).

Heavy snow makes it difficult to drive on all of the country's main roads: A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, A9, A10, A11, A12, A13, A14, A15 for their whole length, and things are even more difficult on regional and minor roads with strong winds likely to cause snowdrifts.

The LVC said that drivers should be particularly careful to choose the reduced driving speed appropriate to the road surface position and leave a safe distance to the vehicle ahead. An interactive map on road conditions is available on lvceli.lv.

Snow is expected to continue falling for most of the day on Thursday, with several centimeters likely to be added to the snow layer. An orange warning ('danger') for snowfall is in place across most of the western Kurzeme region for Thursday.
