Snowy weather week ahead in Latvia, followed by thaw

This week the weather will remain in Latvia and the snow layer will continue to rise, but next week a thaw is expected, according to forecasts by weatherman Toms Bricis.

On the nights to Tuesday and Wednesday, it will be snowing from time to time throughout the country, and there will be a strong snowfall in places in Kurzeme and Vidzeme. Air temperature until Wednesday at night will be between -9  and -4 C, on the coast around zero, but during the days -5 C to 0 C, Wednesday afternoon for places in Kurzeme up to +1 C and +2 C.

In the second half of the week, the sky will clear more often, the frost will intensify, at nights between -15 C and -10 C; in places where the sky will be clear for longer, even around -20 C. Along the coast, it will be warmer, around -5 C.

Warm masses of air from the west will flow into the region next week and there will be a thaw around December 20, and the air temperature in Kurzeme will rise to +5 C and above. There is a high probability that in some places in Kurzeme the snow will completely melt.
