Spring postponed until weekend

The weather will be snowy in Latvia early this week but warmer temperatures characteristic of spring are to return in the latter half of the week, say forecasts.

On Monday afternoon and evening a blizzard will move across Latvia, with gusts of 13-18 m/s. Tuesday will be warmer with 0..-5C at night and 0..+4C during daytime.

A 10-15 cm thick blanket of snow is forecast in the eastern and northeastern reaches of the country.

Starting Wednesday there'll be less precipitation and temperatures will hover around -3..+2C at night, dropping to -7..-8C on Thursday morning in parts of Latgale and Vidzeme. Daytime temperatures will be around 0..+5C.

It's expected that the weekend will be warmer with occasional rain. Nighttime temperatures will be around -1..+4C at night and +2..+7C during daytime.
