Strong wind alert in Latvia Friday

Two strong cyclones will hit Latvia in the coming days, bringing gusts of strong wind, according to forecasts by weatherman Toms Bricis.

Wind damage is expected.

The Latvian Environment, Geology, and Meteorology Center has issued an orange alert on the coast of Latvia and the yellow alert in the rest of the country.

The orange alert will be effective from the night to Friday at 1:00 until the night to Saturday at 22:00. It says that in nearly all of Latvia, the west-northwest wind will increase to 20-23 meters per second, up to 28 meters per second in gusts.

Individual trees and branches could fall, and the roofs of buildings and light construction structures can get damaged.

Saturday will still be windy but the wind will die down. It will intensify again early next week. According to current forecasts, on Tuesday it will again exceed 25 meters per second.

On Friday, there will be a thaw throughout Latvia, and the air temperature will be around +1 C to +8 C.
