Subpar air quality in Rīga Tuesday

Take note – story published 2 years ago

Air quality has deteriorated due to cold and calm weather in Riga, according to operational data from Rīga City Council observation stations.

Nitrogen dioxide is increased in the air and PM10 concentrations of small solid particles are increased.

Air pollution accumulates mainly due to heating, which is more intense in cold weather.

Air pollution rates in the city are not extremely high, but it should be noted that locally the pollution may be higher in parts of the city where there are more houses with individual heating, in addition to the use of firewood or coal.

Increased pollution is felt more by people with chronic respiratory diseases.

The forecasts show that the air quality of Wednesday morning will start to improve, as the wind will intensify and a warmer air mass will flow into Latvia.
