Summer returns for farewell embrace

Take note – story published 9 years ago

The final days of August promise to be sunny and pleasant, with the past week’s daily dose of chilly precipitation tapering off under scattered cloud cover. September is expected to start off just as nicely, the state Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC) forecasts.

While Friday still will see some brief rainshowers overnight, Saturday will bring partly cloudy skies but little to no chance of precipitation.

Nighttime lows will drop to between +9 and +13 degrees Celsius, while daytime air temps will reach between +18 and +21 degrees for more balmy hints of the diminishing summer weather.

Overnight to Sunday lows will reach down to +5 degrees in eastern regions, between +7 and +12 degrees elsewhere in Latvia. Winds will be slow, causing accumulations of fog across the country.

From Sunday on through the next of the week forecasts predict ongoing mostly sunny weather, mixed with clouds that might bring only brief and isolated showers. Daytime highs will be pleasantly warm, in the south of Latvia possibly reaching highs around +24 degrees, with winds blowing slowly from the east.

In further good-weather news, no overnight frosts are predicted yet this week, LSM’s meteorologist Toms Bricis told LR Friday morning.
