'Supermoon eclipse' to be witnessed in Latvia

Take note – story published 8 years ago

Two beautiful astronomical events will be observable on the night to Monday, September 28. The full moon will come particularly close to the Earth, and it will seem bigger than usually. A lunar eclipse will be taking place concurrently.

The eclipse will start in Latvia at 3:20 and will be in full bloom at 6:23 o'clock, the Astronomy Institute of the University of Latvia told LSM's Russian news. The ending of the eclipse won't be seen in Latvia as the Moon will leave the sky at 7:29 - and it won't be seen either way as the sun will rise at 7:20.

As the Earth has an atmosphere, the Moon doesn't become invisible - it simply takes on a blood or brownish-red hue. The eclipse will enter its maximum at 5:47.

Astronomers say that you'll be able to observe the eclipse with the naked eye. Only clouds would be able to trouble the romantic observers, but, according to Gismeteo, the night to Monday is expected to be clear.
