Temperatures fell below -20 C at night in Latvia

In many places throughout Latvia the temperature fell to -20 C during the night, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVGMC). 

In Vidzeme, the orange alert is in force until 9 AM as the air temperature dropped to -27 C locally.

LVĢMC data show that at 4 AM Tuesday the air temperature ranged from -7.3 C in Kolka and -26.4 in Zosēni.

The national cold record of December 7 is -29.5 degrees in 1959.

On Tuesday, the sun will shine in most of Latvia. The maximum air temperature will be between -5 C in Kurzeme to -15 in Vidzeme, around -11 C in Rīga.
