Warning: lots more snow on the way

Take note – story published 1 year ago

A weather warning was issued December 11 with another large dose of snow expected to fall at the start of the week.

"A wide precipitation zone will cross Latvia from the south east, bringing prolonged and heavy snowfall on Monday and Tuesday. It will snow very heavily in places, the snow cover will increase by 10-14 cm. There will be blizzards in many places, and visibility will decrease to 100-500 m. Snow drifts will form on the roads!" warned the national weather center.

The weather warning for snow and blizzards applies to the whole country and includes areas with a yellow warning (potentially dangerous) and orange warning (dangerous). In western coastal districts near Cape Kolka there is also a high wind warning.

Driving conditions remain difficult across the country. On December 10, Latvian State Roads (LVC) said that while most major roads were "satisfactory", many regional and local roads are still covered with snow and ice, especially in Vidzeme and Latgale.
