Weather week in Latvia: mild on workdays, colder at weekend

Take note – story published 3 years ago

This week will continue to be very mild in temperature terms for the time of year, but will be followed by colder conditions next weekend, according to LSM weatherman Toms Bricis.

Monday to Friday, the air temperature in the afternoons will mostly be in the range +3 Celsius to + 10 C, but at night it will be only 1-3 degrees colder, so freezing point will only be reached in a few spots in Vidzeme and Latgale, and even then will not be dropping much below zero.

Despite the mild temperatures, it will not be a spectacularly pleasant week with a little rain every day in many parts of Latvia, but the rainfall will not be heavy or long-lasting. The prevailing winds will be will be slow to moderate southerly and south-westerly winds.

At the weekend the wind will swing around to come from the north, bringing much cooler air into the region. The temperature in many places will drop a few degrees below zero at night, but during the day it will be in the range of 0 C to + 5 C.

However, as atmospheric pressure increases during the weekend, it is hoped that the sky will clear, bringing some sunshine and crisp conditions. No significant precipitation is expected, but fog and light frost will form.
