Weather week to get warm at weekend

Take note – story published 4 years ago

Warm weather is expected later this week, though the downside is people should only enjoy it while observing social distancing measures during the coronavirus outbreak.

Temperatures are to progressively grow to up to +15C in the weekend, forecasts say.

The night to Tuesday will still be quite cold with temperatures of -1..-8C. Tuesday will be warmer with temperatures of +3..+8C in the forecast.

The freeze will decrease slightly on Wednesday and Thursday night and daytime temperatures will grow to +5..+6C in Kurzeme and +10..+12C in central Latvia and Rīga.

The weekend will be warm at +9..+14C in most of the country and up to +15..+16C in some places.

Colder air masses will cross into Latvia from the west on Sunday but current forecasts say eastern Latvia will still be warm at about +15C.

The weather is forecast to be sunny and dry with slow winds. Consequently, fire hazards will increase across Latvia.

But people are discouraged from socializing and banned from holding public gatherings during the coronavirus pandemic. A state of emergency is in force across Latvia until April 14, at which point it may be renewed.

Incidentally March 23 is World Meteorological Day so congratulations and well done to all weather forecasters everywhere.
