Weekend to bring freeze

Until Friday it'll be snowing quite a lot, while on the weekend the freeze will return, according to the latest forecasts, weatherman Toms Bricis reported Wednesday.

On Wednesday arctic air masses will flow into the region, causing clouds to build up above the Baltic Sea. The clouds will snow over Latvia from Wednesday to Friday, and the snowfall will be especially strong on Wednesday and Thursday.

The air temperature will fall to -5C to -10C in Kurzeme and Zemgale on the night to Thursday, with Vidzeme and Latgale regions freezing to -10C to -15C and daytime temperatures ranging from -2C in the coastal regions and -12C in the east.

The weekend will have clearer skies with much less snow.

However air temperatures will drop from -13C to -18C with the weather being somewhat warmer on the coastal regions but plunging to -20C to -25C in Vidzeme. Daytime temperatures will be ranging from -7C to -12C.
