The weekend will be noticeably warmer than the bittter temperatures of recent days, with western Kurzeme experiencing particularly mild conditions, according to the latest forecasts.

On Saturday and Sunday, the sky will often be cloudy, with occasional snow flurries, particularly on Sunday.

The prevailing wind will be a northwesterly, which in Vidzeme and Latgale will be mostly slow, but on the coast of Kurzeme the gusts will reach a breezy 15-17 meters per second.

The air temperature on Saturday night in many places in the eastern part of the country will drop below -15 Celsius, but on Sunday night in most parts of the country the range will be from  -2 C to - 7 C degrees, though in some places in Vidzeme - 13 C is possible. In the afternoon, the air will warm to -1 C to - 6 C, in the east to -7 C to- 9 C, but on the Kurzeme coast the thermometer could even make it into positive territory at + 1 C.

The respite from the cold will be brief. At the beginning of next week, the temperature in the whole country will drop again, in Vidzeme and Latgale -20 C will make a return.
