Take note – story published 1 year ago

A warning has been issued about dangerously high winds and intense rainfall in parts of Latvia.

The Latvian State Geology and Meteorology Center issued a warning about high winds in coastal areas along the Gulf of Rīga on Monday and Tuesday morning.

A second warning of heavy rainfall is in place across a large section of the east of the country for Monday, including all of Latgale.

Both warnings are rated as "potentially dangerous", the second of the four possible warning levels.

As far as the rest of the week is concerned, the weather in Latvia will be windy this week, but it will get warmer in the second half of the week, according to forecasts.

It will rain for a long time in eastern Latvia on Monday and Tuesday. A gusty northerly wind will blow at up to 20-22 meters per second on the coast. The air temperature on Tuesday and Wednesday will be in the range of +10 to +15 degrees Celsius, but cooler in the east of the country.

Starting from Thursday, a gusty westerly or south-westerly wind will blow, often around 20 meters per second on the coast. Short-term rain is also expected in the second half of the week, but in general there will not be much precipitation. The air temperature will rise to as much as +17 C or +18 C degrees in the afternoon, and nights will be mild with no frost expected.
