Yellow alert for heavy rain in force in Latvia

On Tuesday, the yellow alert applies in the central and eastern part of Latvia, as long-lasting rains are expected, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

The rains are expected throughout the day, but in the afternoon and evening there will be strong thunderstorms in the eastern and central parts of the country. Altogether the rain level will reach 25 to 30 millimeters of water. 

On the western coast of Kurzeme, as well as on the southern coast of the Gulf of Riga, including Riga, there is also a yellow warning due to a strong north wind that will reach 20-22 meters per second in gusts. The wind can break some branches of trees and damage light structures.

Elsewhere in the country, wind gusts will reach 12-17 meters per second.

Maximum air temperature will be between +18 C and +23 C.

It will be raining all day in Rīga, and thunderstorms are expected in the evening. A strong north wind, gusting around 20 meters per second, will blow. Maximum air temperature will be around 20 C.
