On Thursday and Friday, the weather in Latvia will be sunny and hot, and the yellow alert for heat is in force, according to weatherman Toms Bricis.

Rainfall is not expected, there will be a slow to moderate wind.

Maximum air temperature will range between +24 C to +29 C, in places in the central and southern part of Kurzeme up to +30 C to +31 C.

In Riga, it will be sunny, with slow wind temperatures will reach +27 C to +28 C, in the north of town for a degree cooler.

With hot weather, more people are also expected to go near waters. State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) calls on people to be careful and responsible.

VUGD spokeswoman Ilze Dāme-Birziņa said on Latvian Television: “We call on the society to be co-responsible. If you see young people raging in the water, someone drinking alcohol and then heading to sea or some parents not looking at their children, then point it out, because perhaps that way you can save someone's life."
