Music and literature are the two great pillars making up this week's three for the weekend.

Porta world music festival

The Porta world music festival is ongoing with a concert on November 10 by Buryatia's Shona at Riga's Fon Stricka Villa. They'll be playing etno fusion music at a free concert.

Shona will also be joining the electro-folk project Onuka on November 12 when the festival concludes at the Cēsis concert hall. 

Shipsea and Matīss Čudars in Jūrmala

Meanwhile the talented Shipsea and Matīss Čudars will perform a concert featuring vocals, piano and an invisible choir

They'll be performing classic pieces by Imants Kalniņš but also new works with words from Llorca, Ainārs Mielavs and Latvian folk songs accompanied by Shipsea's music. 

Literary news

Meanwhile Latvian Literature have surprised everyone and come up with a literary newsletter. It includes a look at what's new in Latvian letters and includes an interview with Nora Ikstena, who'll be the focus of attention at the London Book Fair next year.
