Porziņģis, Bertāns start NBA season

Kristaps Porziņģis was among the top scorers for the New York Knicks' in a crushing defeat against the Cavaliers Tuesday, while Dāvis Bertāns scored five points for San Antonio Spurs against the Golden State Warriors in what was his debut in the NBA.

Porziņģis scores 16 but still unconvincing

Porziņģis scored 16 points in 33 minutes with a +/- coefficient of -20 and making two fouls. He scored two out of five three-pointers and two out of eight two-point throws. He succeeded scoring three out of four free throws.

The New York Knicks were defeated by the Cleveland Cavaliers, who were champions last year, with 88 to 117. On Saturday the Knicks will play the Grizzlies on their home court.

Incidentally, on Tuesday Porziņģis and Adidas agreed to a multiyear contract in what was the most lucrative shoe and apparel deal for a European player in NBA history, reported Yahoo.

The contract is expected to bring him $3m to $6m annually.

Bertāns: five points in four minutes

Bertāns made his NBA debut and scored his only three-point throw and a two-pointer. He played for 3:41 minutes, hitting the court in the fourth quarter. His team won 129:100 against the Golden State Warriors. 

This is the first time there are two Latvians playing in an NBA season.
