According to the Central Electoral Commission (CVK), there will be 8,866 candidates in all, of which 61% are male and 38.9% female -- which raises the intriguing question of what the remaining 0.1% is.
The average age of candidates is 45 years with the youngest candidate 18 and the oldest 88.
Though 99.9% of candidates declare themselves to be Latvian citizens, there are also 8 Americans, 5 Canadians, 7 Lithuanians, 4 Germans and one Finn standing for election.
As is to be expected, Riga fields the greatest number of candidates with 713 hopefuls. In contrast Lubāna, Rundāle and Vaiņode municipalities will have just 11 candidates each.
