Three for the Weekend: Poetry, Crafts, Comedy

The first weekend of September, for many, represents the beginning of a new year of sorts. Here are some tips for celebration!

Poetry Days

The 58th annual Poetry Days, which is by now an international festival, takes place from September 2 to 14 this year, bringing together poets and artists in dozens of events. The opening of the festival is set for September 2 at 19:00 at the arts center NOASS (AB Dambis, Rīga). The event, titled 'Breathe in', will feature three poets who work with both word and sound: Ivars Šteinbergs, Dana Zālīte and Reinis Rabenau, and Guntis Kursišs.

This years slogan for the entire festival is 'Poetry Breathes.' You can find the list of performers and events on the official website.

English Comedy

If you've been missing a good laugh, this event is for you. On September 1, 20:00, at the bar Rīgas Ķirsis (Audēju Street 8, Old Town of Rīga), the organization Borderline Comedy is hosting a comedy open mic in English. As the open mic format suggests, you can come not only listen but participate, too.

Modern Craft Market

The Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum on the outskirts of Rīga will have an interesting offering for visitors on September 2 and 3  by staging a Modern Craft Market.

Visitors to the market will have the opportunity to get to know the latest trends in Latvian crafts and buy beautiful, useful household items made from natural materials, jewelry, and clothing, as well as home-made food products, the museum has stated.

The market will be open from 09:00 to 17:00 on both days.
