'From Midsummer to Song Festival' films available worldwide

The National Film Center (NKC) has announced it will host its annual online film festival for Midsummer, this year carrying it into the Song and Dance Festival.

Twelve films of different time periods dating back to 1938 will be available on the NKC website filmas.lv between June 21 and July 10.

Among the films are three focused on the importance of song in the Latvian way of independence and political fights, like Dziesmuvara (2018), and Krustceļš (1990), as well as historical testimonies about the Song and Dance Festival – Kam drosme ir (1938), Padomju Latvija Nr. 29 (1948), Pirmie Eiropas latviešu dziesmu svētki Hamburgā (1964), as well as films devoted to song and the Latvian people as such – Virsdiriģenti (1985), Prieks (1973), Nāc ar mani padejot (2014), Dziesmusvētki (2003), Brāļi Kokari (1978), Mēs esam un būsim (1990), Dziedot dzimu (1990).
